Holiday Safety Tips For Dogs in Atascocita

It's the holiday season and we're thankful for our four-legged friends.

While we're busy preparing a feast for family and friends, our furry friends can get into trouble with some of the foods we leave unattended. Here are some holiday safety tips for dogs in Atascocita to keep your pets safe and sound while you're celebrating this holiday season.

Keep Your Pumpkin Pie Out of Reach

Pumpkin pie is a staple on holiday tables across the country, but it's not so great for dogs. Dogs have a sweet tooth, meaning they like to eat things like sugar, desserts (and human food). And even though pumpkin pie isn't toxic for dogs, it can be harmful if ingested in large amounts or over time. So, keep your pumpkin pies out of reach when you aren't eating them yourself.

Watch Out For Bones

Bones can be dangerous because they splinter easily, which can cause internal bleeding or punctures in your dog's digestive tract and intestines if ingested without supervision. If you want to give your dog a bone as a treat, make sure it's edible, like a bully stick or pork rinds, instead of something that's hard, like bone-in ham or turkey legs.

Don't Give Your Dog Chocolate

It's not just for humans! Chocolate contains methylxanthines, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs if ingested in large amounts. This can lead to dehydration or even death if not treated quickly by a veterinarian. The best way to prevent your dog from eating chocolate is to keep it out of reach. If they do ingest some, call your vet immediately.

Watch Out for the Decorations

When it comes to holiday decorations, the most dangerous things are tinsel and icicle lights. Both can be easily chewed off and swallowed by your dog, which could lead to choking or even a blockage in their digestive tract. Be sure to keep them out of reach at all times!
